Quick, easy SEO you can implement today

Ah, SEO! The untamable beast. Although SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is definitely something you should hire an expert for down the road, there are simple strategies you can implement yourself today. Continue reading for my 3 top tips ✨

1 | Titles and meta descriptions

What are titles and meta descriptions? Titles and meta descriptions are pieces of HTML code present in the header of a web page. They help search engines like Google understand the content of a given page. A page’s title and meta description tags are usually shown whenever that page appears in Google search results, as you can see below.

Aim to write strategic and well-thought-out titles and descriptions to grab people’s attention using relevant keywords. If you’re on WordPress, there’s a plugin for that, it’s called Yoast.

2 | Image optimization

Google Image can drive substantial traffic to your website, especially if you’re a product-based business. For your images to appear in Google Image searches, you want to take advantage of alt text and file names.

File names

Make sure you edit your file names before upload. Try to make them descriptive, avoiding names like ‘image1.jpg’.

Alt text

Alt text (also known as alternative text) is the written copy that appears in place of an image on a webpage if the image fails to load on a user’s screen. This little piece of text helps screen-reading tools describe images to visually impaired readers and allows search engines to better crawl and rank your website. You can easily add alt text to your images in WordPress when uploading your images or in ‘Media’ in the dedicated field in the right-hand column.

Image size

SEO isn’t solely about keywords! Because Google cares about providing high-quality search results, it will favor fast loading websites.

One of the biggest mistakes I see business owners make is uploading incredibly large images to their website thinking it’ll look super high-resolution. And while those images will look good, they’ll also take ages to load onto the page, making your website incredibly slower. We don’t want that! Google doesn’t want that.

If you don’t own Photoshop, you can still optimize your images with free non-designer software like Photopea (go to my Instagram for the tutorial), TinyPNG, or JPEGMini without losing quality.

3 | Google My Business profile

Creating a Google My Business profile is one of the easiest things you can do to improve your local SEO. Getting on Google My Business can increase your chances of showing up in Google’s Local Pack, Local Finder, Google Maps, and organic rankings in general.

There’s a bit of a process in order to get your profile approved by Google, so make sure to set that up sooner than later.

Once it’s all set up, make sure to optimize your profile and, off course, invite your customers or clients to give your reviews!
